From News 12: The Tennessee Department of Education announced the winners of the Perkins Reserve Grant on Monday. School districts in three local counties are award recipients.

The funds are going to 32 school districts in the state of Tennessee for the 2023-2024 school year. The funds are to be used for Career and Technical Education, according to Tennessee officials. Overall, TDOE is awarding $2.6 million in grants.

Local award recipients include Hamilton County, Meigs County and Polk County.

Officials explained the reason for these grants is to create new programs within the schools that align with local career opportunities. This includes high-skill, high-wage and in-demand industries.

“Thanks to Governor Lee and the legislative body, districts like Polk County Schools can exponentially increase opportunities to reimagine learning in CTE,” said Ryan Goodman, CTE Director of Polk County Schools. “The Perkins Reserve Grant awards will accelerate our initiative to incorporate workforce bootcamps for students linked to industry credentials in high-wage, high-skill positions.”

The Perkins Reserve Grant began in 2018.
