Detectives have charged two males for their involvement in multiple thefts and burglaries in Bradley County.

On January 29th, the Cleveland Police Department responded to Ocoee Crossing in reference to a subject attempting to steal a backhoe. Upon officers’ arrival they located a Dodge Ram flatbed truck with an attached flatbed trailer that was used to load the backhoe, and determined a subject fled on foot prior to their arrival. During investigation officers learned the truck and trailer had been stolen from the Blue Springs community in southeastern Bradley County, which led to Bradley County Sheriff Office’s detectives responding to the scene. After processing evidence and video surveillance, detectives were able to identify the subject as Aaron Patterson, who was also involved in a separate attempted theft of a truck and equipment on Kile Lane. The victim on Kile Lane was able to provide photos of the subject involved in the attempted theft which led to the identification of Patterson.

Aaron Scott Patterson, age 25, of Cleveland, TN faces charges on two counts of attempted theft over $10,000, theft over $10,000, theft over $2,500, auto burglary, burglary, and felony vandalism over $1,000.

On January 31st, a Bradley County Sheriff Office’s patrol deputy conducted a traffic stop on a black Ford F-150 truck. During the traffic stop, the patrol deputy was able to determine the attached trailer, along with two motorcycles inside the trailer, were reported stolen in Bradley County on January 29, 2018. The driver of the truck, identified as Nicholas Stroud, was arrested at the scene.

Nicholas Lee Stroud, age 33, of Cleveland, TN faces charges of theft over $10,000, theft of property over $10,000, and burglary.

Stroud was also served outstanding criminal warrants from Bradley County General Sessions Criminal Court.

The flu bug, and related illnesses, are apparently taking their toll on classrooms in both the Cleveland City and Bradley County school systems.

According to announcements made early Thursday afternoon by the school systems, and reiterated in community messaging by the Cleveland/Bradley County Emergency Management Agency, schools in both systems will be closed today.

Additionally, Cleveland City Schools officials have also announced their school system also will be shut down Monday.

Both school systems report community-wide illnesses are increasing absenteeism rates in both the student and staff populations.

The city schools press statement adds, “Twelve-month employes will work regular hours on Friday, Feb. 2. Twelve-month employees will not work on Monday, Feb. 5.”

Speaking on the Bradley County School System closure, the EMA announcement stressed all its schools will be closed today, and that all elementary activities have been cancelled.

Similar closures are also being reported by neighboring school systems, according to news media reports.

Media executive Jim Brewer II, 56, lost his battle with oral cancer on Thursday night, and friends and co-workers remembered him as a kind man who loved the radio business, people and his community.

Sybil Topel, vice president of marketing and communications with the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce said Jim Brewer always thought about the positive impact his Brewer Media radio stations and publications could have and he was generous with his support of many nonprofits, including the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce.

Keith Landecker started at Brewer Media shortly after Brewer started there almost three decades ago, and said while the younger Brewer was learning the business from his father, Jim Brewer Sr., Landecker was learning from his new colleague. It was the personal side of Brewer that means the most to Landecker. He said he was always loved and appreciated and respected when working under Brewer. It turned out to be more than just a job for him.

Bernie Parker, VP and general manager at Bahakel Communications, a local competitor, said Brewer was an asset to the community and the local radio scene.

Jason Walker and Brad Steiner are on-air personalities at Hits 96, a Bahakel station, and both expressed their deep respect for Brewer.
