A shortage of bus drivers, which has been an ongoing challenge for school systems across the state, is forcing Cleveland City Schools to consider changes to school start times for the upcoming school year to improve the consistency of bus routes. Projections do not show the driver shortage improving anytime soon. In order to improve driver retention and availability, the school system is considering three options for school start times to allow for more time to pick up children.

Option 1 would have Cleveland High and Yates Primary schools starting at 7:15AM and dismissing at 2:15PM. Cleveland Middle and Candy’s Creek Cherokee Elementary schools would start at 8:15AM and dismiss at 3:15PM. All other elementary schools would start at 9:15AM and dismiss at 4:15PM.

Option 2 would have Cleveland Middle School starting at 7:15AM and dismissing at 2:15PM. All elementary schools would start at 8:15AM and dismiss at 3:15PM. Cleveland High School would start at 9:30AM and dismiss at 4:15PM.

Option 3 would have Cleveland Middle and Cleveland High schools starting at 7:30AM and dismissing at 2:30PM. All elementary schools would start at 8:30AM and dismiss at 3:30PM.

Staff and families will receive an E-Mail with a short survey to provide feedback on these options. The survey will be open for feedback until Wednesday, March 22nd.
