The Cleveland City School Board held a special called meeting yesterday to discuss the School System’s interest in the former First Tennessee Bank building on Raider Drive.

As previously reported here on WCLE, the Cleveland City Council has been in talks with Cleveland Development Enterprises, about purchasing the building for city government uses. One of the possible uses discussed has been space for Cleveland City Schools.

Although the school board has endorsed the idea, they are not ready to commit to the purchase just yet. They are asking for more time to explore the project. The School Board says they support the acquisition of the property by the City of Cleveland but need further discussions and evaluations to determine the school system’s role in the project. The motion to wait for further information passed 7-0.
