From the Cleveland Daily Banner…

One person reportedly died in a traffic accident on Interstate 75 in Bradley County late Sunday around midnight.

According to reports, a tractor-trailer traveling north on the interstate crashed around the 31-mile marker, just south of the Charleston exit.

It was not immediately known if the person who died was the driver of the tractor-trailer, a passenger or someone in another vehicle possibly involved in the wreck. No reports of a second vehicle were mentioned by authorities.

The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office was the first to respond to the scene, posting on its Twitter page that the accident involved a fatality.

The BCSO contacted the Tennessee Highway Patrol, which is investigating the accident. The BCSO assisted in shutting down the northbound lanes of the interstate as the accident was cleared, with traffic being halted for several hours. Much of the traffic was rerouted at Exit 27 (Paul Huff Parkway) until the crash scene was reopened to motorists.

Details of the accident were unavailable this morning, as the wreck was still under investigation by the THP. Identity of the crash victim has not been made available.

From News Channel 9…

Benjamin Brewer, the driver behind the wheel in the deadly I-75 crash, was set to go on trial Monday but instead, he made only a brief appearance before the judge.

His defense team requested a delay because they say late last week, they became aware of a second toxicology report of his blood.

The test was conducted by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), and the results were the not same as the test conducted by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

Both showed that he had meth and amphetamines in his system but the NTSB report showed significantly lower levels of the drugs.

The defense says the discrepancy helps their case but the state said, regardless of the difference, he shouldn’t have had anything in his system.

Judge Don Poole said either way it’s a critical to the case.

Hamilton County District Attorney Neal Pinkston responded to the defense complaint that it wasn’t given the NTSB toxicology report on Brewer.

Both sides eventually determined to reconvene on Wednesday to discuss a new trial date.

From WRCB Channel 3…

A Chattanooga man faces multiple charges, accused of forcing his way into a home with a gun.

Calvin Carter III was arrested Monday, and charged with first-degree attempted murder, especially aggravated burglary, reckless endangerment, and three counts of aggravated assault, according to the arrest report.

Late Saturday night, Carter knocked on an apartment door on Mansion Circle and demanded to be let in. One victim told police he heard a metallic sound, what he thought was the receiver on a weapon being racked back and forth.

That’s when the victim jumped out of the apartment’s back window, only to be discovered by Carter. The report states Carter then led the one victim back to the apartment at gunpoint to make his way inside.

Carter then demanded the victim’s cellphone and during the exchange was jumped by his two victims, who disarmed him and held him until police arrived.

One man was shot in the leg during the struggle and was transmitted to a local hospital for examination and treatment.

Carter’s bond was set for $245,000.
