The Cleveland City Council met yesterday for a work session and a voting session. During the meeting, the council unanimously voted to support the symbolic renaming of a portion of South Lee Highway in honor of Rhyne Howard. Howard is a former Bradley Bearette and the overall first-draft pick of the WNBA last year. She currently plays for the Atlanta Dream. WCLE’s Gideon Ratcliff was at the meeting and caught up with City Councilman Dale Hughes and Cleveland Mayor Kevin Brooks after the meeting. Here is what they had to say about honoring Rhyne Howard.

Last week the County Commission also voted unanimously to approve the name change. The name change will be symbolic with signage and will not impact the addresses of nearby businesses.

The next City Council meeting will be held on Monday, March 13th. City Manager Joe Fivas told Council members it will be a planning session for the upcoming City budget.
