The County Commission met last night for a work session.

During the meeting, it was announced that a broadband public hearing hosted by Cleveland Utilities will take place on Wednesday, March 8th at 6 pm at the Tom Wheeler Training Center. The public is welcome and the meeting will pertain to anyone who is currently a Cleveland Utilities customer.

It was also announced that the Bradley County Farmer’s Market will be open this year from April 1st through November 25th.

Sheriff Steve Lawson gave the Commissioners a review of the jail population. Sheriff Lawson expressed concerns about high inmate numbers and issues filling positions at the jail. Currently, there are 527 total inmates in the 510-bed facility.  The Sheriff says he is interested in finding ways to lower numbers in the jail through the court system.

Commissioners also discussed asking Bradley County Schools to create a procedure to establish a process for honoring alumni in the future.  The issue is on the agenda of the next voting session of the Commission on Monday, March 6th at 7 pm.
