The Cleveland City Council met yesterday.   The Council honored the Cleveland High School Volleyball team for winning a State Champions

The Cleveland City Council met yesterday.

 

The Council honored the Cleveland High School Volleyball team for winning a State Championship this year. The team and coaching staff were recognized and given a proclamation for thief achievement. 

 

Lucy Rymer with the Museum at Five Points thanked the council for their efforts to preserve and protect the Cherokee Chieftain statue. Rymer also told the Council that the Museum Board had voted to put aside some funding for the preservation of the statue in the future should it stay on the Museum property. 

 

The Council unanimously voted to give City employees an extra day off for the Holidays on December 26th. 

 

The Council also voted to rezone about 10 acres of property located on the NE corner of Georgetown Rd. and Eureka Rd. from  

unincorporated county to a Commercial Zoning District. 

 

On Monday, Aug. 28th, the City Council voted to approve an ordinance to establish a Land Bank Authority, which would have the means to clear titles and extinguish back taxes to help underutilized properties become more ready for development. 

 

Yesterday, the Council voted on Appointments for the Council Representative(s) of the Land Bank Authority Board.  Councilmen Bill Estes and Ken Webb will fill 2 of the 5 seats and Represent the Council. Bill Martin, Julie Martinez, and Jared Castell will fill the remaining seats on the Board. 

 

The next City Council meeting will be held on Monday, December 11th.
