Major changes are coming to a Cleveland highway.

On Thursday, officials with the Tennessee Department of Transportation, along with state and local leaders, broke ground on the State Route-60 improvement project at Georgetown Road Northwest. 

According to TDOT, this project extends from the four-lane section north of I-75 to SR-306 (Eureka Road).

The nearly $54 million project will also create a center lane, build a bridge over Candies Creek and make the road more pedestrian friendly, to name a few.

Officials say this is a win for Cleveland. But the improvements come at a cost.

Joe Deering who is a TDOT Director for Region Two says residents living in 16 homes had to be relocated.

Once completed, this project will greatly improve roadway conditions for the nearly 15,000 vehicles that travel this route daily and provide the infrastructure to support additional economic growth in the area.

The 2.9-mile project is scheduled for completion on or before August 25, 2025.

Ellen and Omayya Atout’s music business “Songlorious” will be featured on ABC’s Shark Tank tonight.

The Chattanooga business is an Uber for music, providing personalized songs for customers.

After the pandemic devastated the music industry, Songlorious provides employment for over 120 musicians.

The couple applied to Shark Tank in the hopes of obtaining an experienced business partner to grow the company.

The episode of Shark Tank featuring the couple will air on the same channel as News Channel 9 at 8p.m.

In news today…

The Bradley County Schools Board of Education met on Thursday covering several items of business. An affiliation agreement was voted on and passed between Walker Valley High School and Starr Regional Medical Center. Students will be doing internships and work-based learning at the facility. While such an agreement is already in place with Tennova, this will give another close option and more space for interested students. An update was given on the PIE Center, indicating work has begun on wiring, painting, fiber installation, and HVAC testing, among other things. Wright Brothers and Center for Sports Medicine are beginning their processes of working on their sections of the building.
