The Finance Committee met last week and reviewed Mayor Gary Davis’ budget proposal and final amendments. The Committee will be recommending minimal changes such as a slight increase to the compensation for the Beer Board compensation, a $1000 increase to the county commission budget due to an employee gaining new certification and needing training, and removing $3,850 from the Trustee budget and agreed to cover the needed expense in ARP fund for the same amount. Finance Committee Chairman, Milan Blake places the amendments and the final proposed budget on the June 17th voting agenda.
4th District Commissioner, Howard Thompson started a discussion of a potential substitute motion requesting to remove animal shelter from the budget to vote on it separately. Thompson said he has concerns over the shelter not taking animals due to not having room. Mayor Davis told Commissioners the budget could be passed and the contract with the SPCA could be canceled at a later date if the commission votes to do so.
