The County Commission met yesterday to discuss a variety of topics.

 

6th District Commissioner Tommy Ledford presented a resolution to cover additional costs associated with extending waterlines on Rakestraw Road. After the engineering design and planning were completed, the bid for the job slightly exceeded the original amount allocated to the project previously approved by the Commission.  The Commissioners voted 13-0 to cover the additional $3,470.88 in cost. 

 

Commissioner Ledford also announced that the Insurance Committee met earlier in the day today voted to recommend the Mayor’s proposal to stay with CIGNA Health at a 3% cost increase to the county.  The resolution authorizes the Mayor to continue coverage with CIGNA for health benefits for county employees, passed 13-0.  

 

4th District Commissioner Howard Thompson announced the Building and Land Committee met with the Fire Committee last week to discuss the City’s proposal to build a county fire and rescue building in exchange for the county property at 260 Inman Street. The Committee has voted to recommend the mayor continue negotiations with the city and to bring a contract to the commission.  The vote passed 12-1. 

 

3rd District Commissioner Milan Blake made a motion to approve the finance committee’s recommendation to remove the medical background requirement for the Mayor’s two HCI Committee appointments. The motion passed 13-0

 

Commissioner Blake also made a motion to approve the finance committee’s recommendation to shift the HCI investment cycle from a calendar year to the county’s fiscal year. The motion passed 13-0 

 

The Commission will next meet on Monday, October 23rd at 7 p.m.
