From the Cleveland Daily Banner…

Labor market analysts describe Bradley County’s unemployment rate hike of two-tenths of 1 percent in May a modest jump, but it was big enough to land the community in unfamiliar territory.

At 3.1 percent, the local jobless mark — which is still lower than this time last year — drops Bradley behind both Hamilton and Monroe counties in employment, meaning the Cleveland area in May had only the third-lowest unemployment figure in the region.

Although the small increase is not considered out of the ordinary, Patrick Todd, statistical analyst supervisor for the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, cautioned the coming June report probably will reflect an increase. That’s because schools close during May, meaning non-salaried personnel are temporarily laid off for the summer.

On a more positive note, Bradley’s 3.1 remains lower than May 2017, when the mark hit 3.2.
