From NewsChannel 9: An ‘alcohol-fueled’ argument between a husband and wife later led to the husband getting stabbed several times by her father, according to police in Athens.

A release sent Monday morning says the incident happened at 3 a.m. Monday at a home on the 1200 block of Jones Street in the northeast part of town.

The homeowner told officers that the husband ‘showed up at the residence looking for his wife and forced his way into the residence assaulting him and destroying items‘ inside the home, the release says.

That came after the homeowner says his daughter came to seek shelter “from her drunk husband, who had called her several times making threats before he showed up at the residence,” according to police.

The homeowner said he “grabbed the first thing he could find to stop the attack,” which was a knife.

Officers found the husband lying in the backyard with several stab wounds.

At the time of Monday morning’s release, police said the unidentified husband was undergoing emergency surgery.

Police say this case is “currently being discussed” with the 10th District Attorney General’s Office, but no charges have been filed at the time we posted this story.
