Jody Hughes, convicted earlier this year for the murder of Tyler Worth, was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole, and 14 years for tampering with evidence and conspiracy, in Bradley County Criminal Court on Monday.
Hughes was convicted in May for the homicide, along with the sentences for kidnapping, tampering with evidence and conspiracy to tamper with evidence. Hughes received 14 total years to serve on those convictions, to be served consecutively with the murder conviction.
The Tennessee Department of Corrections will be responsible for when Hughes will be eligible for parole.
Hughes is eligible for parole, and also has the ability to seek a new trial and has the right to appear. The request for a new trial must be made within 30 days, noted Criminal Court Judge Sandra Donaghy.
The 14 years added to the murder conviction were six years for kidnapping, and eight years on both the tampering with evidence and conspiracy to tamper with evidence. The two tampering with evidence convictions are to be served concurrently, and will be added to the kidnapping sentence.
Hughes remains in custody of the Tennessee Department of Corrections.

Through Thursday, Oct. 12, the Tennessee Highway Safety Office and the Tennessee Highway Patrol will partner with local law enforcement agencies for the state’s second statewide bus tour to crack down on distracted driving.
The THP will provide two large, black-and-tan buses marked with THP logos to transport law enforcement as they observe motorists for traffic violations. Officers within the THP bus will communicate to patrol vehicles on the road to take law enforcement action. Each participating district will conduct approximately two hours of enforcement.
In April 2017, Tennessee’s first bus tour yielded more than 200 traffic citations.

According to Cleveland Police, a mother was home with her children when a neighbor told her someone wrote threats and racial slurs on her door.
Marcus Jarrett says he was at work when his wife learned about the threats. He says he and his family keep to themselves, and don’t know why someone threatened them.
Worried about how his wife and three children feel, Jarrett will now have relatives stay with them when he goes to work.
Confronted face-on with racism, Jarrett says this doesn’t surprise him.
Cleveland Police say they’ve placed extra patrols in the area.
