The Cleveland Lions Club together with the Bradley County Bar Association is pleased to announce that it will once again provide an opportunity for the voters of Bradley County to see and hear each of the candidates for contested offices of County Commissioner and for Sheriff of Bradley County in the May 1st Republican Primary.
The forum will commence at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10th at the Communications Building located that the intersection of North Ocoee and Central Avenue on the Lee University Campus. This public forum has been a tradition in Bradley County since 1971.
Each candidate will be given an opportunity to introduce themselves and identify the major issue for the particular office he or she seeks. Thereafter, the Moderator will ask questions which have been presented by the public. Anyone who wishes to submit a question should provide it to any member of the Cleveland Lions Club or member of the Bradley County Bar Association.
WTNB will broadcast the forum through Charter Cable Channel 5, Digital Channel 27 and Comcast Channel 210. WCLE 104.1 will also broadcast the event live. These two entities will also broadcast the event on Facebook and it will be livestreamed over the Internet.

A Cleveland Police officer found himself tasing a suspect with whom he was struggling, only to discover the suspect was an armed, convicted felon.
CPD Officer Josh Hodge made contact with a man in a truck at the Economy Inn at 1501 25th St. early Tuesday morning.
During the encounter, which occurred at 4:47 a.m., Hodge reportedly saw drug paraphernalia in plain view inside of the truck. Hodge got the man out of the truck and attempted to detain him. The officer was forced to chase the man as he attempted to flee the scene.
According to the Cleveland Police Department, the man struggled with Hodge, forcing him to attempt to deploy his taser. Hodge deployed both taser cartridges before he was able to gain control of the man. The officer discovered a loaded pistol tucked into the pants of the man, whom Hodge identified as Jeremy Gyurnell, a convicted felon.
Once Gyurnell had been placed into custody, a search revealed a large quantity of methamphetamine and marijuana and other paraphernalia on his person, as well as inside the truck.
Gyurnell was arrested and taken to the Bradley County Justice Center. He was charged with convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession of methamphetamine for resale, simple possession of Schedule VI drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting arrest.

CBS’s 48 Hours on Saturday night will look into the mysterious disappearance of a Cleveland, Tn., woman in 2009.
Marsha Brantley has not been seen since and her body has never been found. She was 52 and worked at Lee College (now Lee University).
Her husband, Donnie Brantley, who did not report her as missing, was finally charged with her murder. However, on the eve of the cold case murder trial in Cleveland, District Attorney General Steve Crump on Feb. 5 announced that charges were being dismissed.

Former Gov. Phil Bredesen of Tennessee, a Democrat, is leading Republican Rep. Marsha Blackburn by double digits in the race to replace Sen. Bob Corker, who is retiring later this year.
A poll conducted by Middle Tennessee State University and released Thursday found that 45% of 600 registered voters surveyed in Tennessee favored Bredesen, while 35% said they would back Blackburn. Another 17% are undecided.
Blackburn’s performance in the poll suggests that Democrats are within striking distance of flipping a long-held Republican US Senate seat in November.
