The Cleveland City Schools Board of Education met on Thursday covering several items of business.

Director of Schools Dr. Russell Dyer gave an update indicating he visited various schools in the last week to see end-of-the-year activities.

There were 5,589 students, with 431 graduates this year.

Over $8 million in scholarships were awarded.

Also, 1,220,216 meals were served through school nutrition, and roughly 170,000 bus miles were driven.

A strategic plan on how the district can improve communication between the system, staff, and families as well as help with translation for non-English speakers was discussed. An item in this plan is a device that would sit at the front desk of schools into which someone could speak, and it would translate to English for the office staff.

Other improvements were also mentioned, with a total cost of $57,000. The plan was approved unanimously.
