Over the past few months, callers to the Bradley County 911 emergency center were being routed to other areas, specifically the Knox County 911 center.
While local officials reported those concerns and the problems were corrected, another issue with 911 calls being received locally has recently arisen.
Joe Wilson, Bradley County 911 director, said that callers to the 911 system in the area have experienced difficulty getting through for several days.
“Some calls are garbled, making it difficult for dispatchers to understand the caller,” said Wilson. “At other times the caller can’t hear the dispatcher.”
Wilson said that most of the trouble comes from wireless calls over the new IP based NexGen 911 system.
Wilson said Bradley County has requested its NexGen lines be rolled back to the older, legacy 911 trunk lines until the source of the problem can be located and repairs made by phone company personnel.
According to Wilson, dispatchers attempt to re-establish contact with the callers when possible. In the meantime, callers who experience trouble can always call the non-emergency line (728-7311, Option 7) to reach dispatch on a clear line.
Officials said personnel from the phone company as well as the state Network Operations Center are troubleshooting the system.

For the third straight year, the best news of all came out of the Memorial Day holiday boating weekend.
According to a report from the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, no boating-related fatalities occurred in the state of Tennessee during the weekend that is the unofficial start to boating season.
The Memorial Day weekends of 2015 and 2016 were also fatality-free. So far, there have been seven boating-related fatalities in 2017.
For the purpose of the statistics, Memorial Day weekend ran from May 26-29 this year.
The 2017 Free Fishing Day will take place this Saturday, June 10, when anyone may fish for free without a license in Tennessee’s public waters.
The TWRA provides the annual free day in hopes of increasing interest in fishing. In addition, children ages 15 and under may fish without a license from Free Fishing Day until Friday, June 16.

Two men calling themselves “God” continue to occupy a building previously used to help Chattanooga’s Homeless.
When Mercy Junction tried to kick the men out of their building last month, they said they planned to fight eviction in court.
Monday, they blew off their chance to be heard in front of a judge, and now, the saga continues.
Mercy Junction says Ryan Homes and Tyler Short are posting threatening things about demons and cults on social media, which is preventing several other tenants from using their space.
The organization says those actions are breaking a clause in their lease.
It will take another court date for Mercy Junction to regain possession of the space. Then, the organization can have the sheriff’s department forcefully remove the Church of Urth
