Edwin Millan, the former Cleveland Police officer who was convicted in October in relation to charges stemming from the arson-involved burning of a vehicle in North Georgia, returned to Bradley County Criminal Court Friday.

According to court reports, he was returned to the Bradley County Justice Center by the Tennessee Department of Corrections. He had been found guilty on three counts relating to the burned-out vehicle found in Murray County, Ga.

Millan was identified through an investigation as the person involved in the burning of his vehicle, reports stated, on which he filed a false theft and arson report, and filed a claim on the loss to his insurance concerning the vehicle.

He was found guilty of the September 2015 incident last October, and sentenced Jan. 18, 2017.

Tenth Judicial District Attorney General Steve Crump said this morning that Millan had been paroled from his conviction, and the case now is set for the fall.

Millan, who is represented by attorney Steven Hatchett, was able to be bonded out on his own recognizance, and faces a Nov. 6 plea or assignment hearing in Bradley County Criminal Court. He had previously been given a $20,000 bond.

A $16.2 million series of renovation projects designed to make Bradley County’s public schools more energy-efficient is nearing completion.

This summer, crews have made quick work of the renovations, including everything from installing new HVAC systems to replacing windows.

Every county school, as well as the system’s central office building, has undergone some sort of change with this project. The changes have been overseen by Energy Systems Group.

All the changes are designed to help save energy and, by extension, money. For example, new LED lighting and motion-based occupancy sensors in the schools are expected to keep lighting costs down.

Students and teachers are also likely to appreciate the new lighting in their classrooms, as well as much more consistent room temperatures.

The entire energy project is expected to be finished before school starts back on Aug. 4, with work continuing through the end of this month.

Workers will be wrapping up the last of the window replacements, kitchen work and plumbing work, and finishing the installation of an energy management system, in the coming weeks.
