Topping our news today…

On Monday evening, MIx 104-1 News received more information from Bradley County Schools regarding positive COVID-19 cases within the school system. Over the weekend we learned that Bradley Central and Park View had positive cases. We have now learned that Taylor and Valley View have confirmed cases as well. In addition, we have also learned of positive cases within the Bradley Central Bearette Basketball Program. Those individuals are self-isolating at home, but out of an abundance of caution, all activities associated with the program have been suspended. School officials have conducted necessary investigation with the Tennessee Department of Health and have notified those who have been in contact with the infected individuals.

In news today…

The Cleveland CIty Council met on Monday and covered several items, including allocation of federal funds for local businesses. There is $230,800 of federal funds to combat COVID-19. Of those, about $180,000 will be used for a small business forgivable loan program. Applications will be accepted from August 21st through September 21st. Funds cannot be used for purchases of equipment, but can be used for expenses such as rent, or the rental of equipment. Also, the Council selected Richard Banks as the new City Judge, who will be replacing Judge Painter. Judge Painter will be replacing Judge Swafford as the Juvenile Courts Judge.

The Bradley County Commission met on Monday and covered numerous items, including the annual Trustee’s report. According to the report, the county is in good financial shape. There has not been much of a reduction in sales tax, despite the expectation of such due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The county took in $5,639,170 in sales tax, up from $5.465 million dollars last year.
