A Chattanooga man was arrested in Cleveland over the weekend, after a global positioning system unit enabled officers to track down a vehicle the man had allegedly stolen before breaking into an eatery to rustle up some grub.
The man, Evan Elmore, 23, of 6807 Hickory Lane, Chattanooga, was arrested for simple possession of marijuana.
According to Cleveland Police Department public information officer Sgt. Evie West, police responded after receiving a call Saturday from the 911 Communications Center in Cleveland that a city of Chattanooga-owned vehicle was stolen from the Scenic City’s Public Works Department.
The vehicle was tracked by its global positioning unit and was located at 3230 Fulbright Road, No. 6 in Cleveland, where officers arrested Evan Elmore as he was exiting the rear door of the apartment.
A bag containing a leafy green substance was discovered in his right front pocket, according to a police report. Elmore was transported to the Bradley County Justice Center, where he was booked on the simple possession charge.
The vehicle was released to the Chattanooga Police Department.
According to media reports, Elmore is the same man who broke into Champy’s on Martin Luther King Boulevard in Chattanooga to fry up some chicken wings, as well as steal other items from the restaurant.
Additional charges are pending, including theft of an auto and burglary of a business.

Arson is suspected in a fire early Wednesday that destroyed a Polk County, Tennessee, church, according to authorities.
Three of the buildings that make up Mercy Tabernacle on Clemmer Ferry Road were destroyed in the blaze, Polk County Emergency Management Director Steve Lofty said Wednesday morning.
A Benton police officer spotted the fire just inside the western city limits and called it in around 2 a.m. Wednesday, Lofty said. The church is just a few hundred yards off of U.S. Highway 411.
Lofty said he spotted something suspicious almost immediately as he made a circle around the buildings. The door had been breached and the glass was busted out of it. That portion of the building was not burning and the structures were not directly connected to each other.
Bomb and arson investigators with the State Fire Marshal’s Office will probe the cause of the fire, and the TBI is likely to assist, as well.

A Cleveland man was arrested and charged with domestic assault after argument with relative.
According to Bradley County Sheriff’s Office public information officer Brian Graves, Michael E. Coleman, 20, of Shady Lane Place, was arrested for hitting his uncle’s wife approximately eight times in the face. She told officers that she had witnessed Coleman and his girlfriend arguing about a dog.
When she entered the conversation, the complainant told police that Coleman became angry and began hitting her, causing injuries to her face, lips and eyes, according to a police report.
Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene, where the victim refused to be transported to a hospital. In addition, the suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.
Coleman was later taken into custody without incident and transported to the Bradley County Jail, where he was later released on a $1,500 bond.
