From News 12: Representative Chuck Fleischmann introduced the Securing Aid For Every School Act (SAFE School Act) to the House on Tuesday.

The SAFE School Act is a $900 million program meant to make schools safer across the country.

The funding will allow both public and private schools to hire school resource officers (SROs). The funds will go to hiring and training veterans and former, or off-duty, officers to serve as SROs.

Rep. Fleischmann said of the bill, “My bill also allows schools to use the funds to help harden schools, enhance physical security, and purchase equipment for SROs.”

Schools may also use the funding to increase training for teachers and make threat assessments.

He introduced the bill to the U.S. House of Representatives on April 11. Senator Marsha Blackburn previously introduced it to the U.S. Senate on March 30.

Fleischmann calls this a “commonsense bill” to protect children and schools across the country.

It is not affiliated with the bills being introduced to the Tennessee legislature. However, it is similar.

The shooting at the Covenant School in Nashville broke my heart and the hearts of every Tennessean and American,” said Rep. Fleischmann.
