NewsChannel 9: An Oregon man is charged with swindling more than $330,300 in cryptocurrency from a victim in Polk County, Tennessee, and authorities say he may have more victims in the area.

The cross-country investigation resulted in the arrest of Patrick Hakim on Tuesday, according to a release from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI).

Agents began working on the case last May.

The TBI’s release says

During the course of the investigation, agents determined that from September 2022 through December 2023, on three separate occasions the victim had funds stolen from an account, at a loss totaling approximately $330,300 at the time of the theft. While the stolen cryptocurrency was sent to multiple exchanges, the investigation revealed that the theft in those incidents could either be traced to accounts belonging to Patrick Hakim of Albany, Oregon, or involved accounts or services subscribed to by Hakim.

Hakim is charged with one count of theft of property over $250,000. The TBI says he may soon face more charges in Oregon.

Right now, he remains in the Linn County, Oregon jail awaiting extradition.

The TBI says “it remains unclear whether there may be additional victims” in this case.
