The early voting period ahead of the Aug. 2 election ended on Saturday afternoon, with 9,523 voters casting ballots.
According to Fran Green, Bradley County’s administrator of elections, in the Tennessee State Primary, there were 1,274 voters in the Democratic primary and 8,227 in the Republican primary. There were 22 voters who cast ballots only in the Bradley County General Election, Green said.
For historical reference, Green said the August elections in 2010 and 2014 had the same ballot as the upcoming Aug. 2 election. She said there were 10,779 voters in the August 2010 election and 8,268 voters in the August 2014 election. Green said the August 2010 county general election included a contested sheriff’s race; the August 2014 election did not.
Those voting on Election Day — Thursday, Aug. 2 — will vote at their assigned precinct. All precincts will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Four men were arrested in connection with an early Friday morning drive-by shooting that was similar to one that occurred on Wednesday.
According to Cleveland Police Department public information officer Sgt. Evie West, witnesses said shots were fired from a silver car on Howard Street, prior to it fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed. Later, more shots were fired near East Street. Shell casings were discovered on Howard Circle and East Street. The incident took place at 12:22 a.m.
After the incident Friday morning, officers revisited the scene of the Wednesday incident and observed a silver Lexus that did not have a license plate registered to the vehicle.
Officers then stopped the vehicle to conduct a search. Four people were inside the vehicle. Two were recognized from the Wednesday night shooting.
The four suspects were transported to the CPD to be interviewed.
The occupants of the Lexus – Darius Pillow, Michael Sims, Brandon Crofton and Dalaaz Jones – were charged with possession of stolen firearms. A rifle was also discovered on the passenger floorboard of the vehicle, as well as a pistol.

The Tennessee governor’s race tab has topped $51 million before the August 2nd primary.
Adding activity from July 1 to 23, four Republicans have spent $45.7 million, infused $40.2 million of personal money and raised $13.2 million otherwise. Ex-state economic development commissioner Randy Boyd personally added $5.2 million-plus in July. His election-long total is approaching $19.5 million. At $21.1 million, Boyd is the biggest spender.
Congresswoman Diane Black added $2 million in July. Her total investment is $12.3 million. House Speaker Beth Harwell and businessman Bill Lee didn’t contribute personal money this month. Their personal contributions remain $3.1 million and $5.3 million.
For Democrats, ex-Nashville Mayor Karl Dean has outspent House Minority Leader Craig Fitzhugh $4.4 million to $984,800. Dean added $750,000 in personal money this month, up to $1.5 million total.
