In news today…

The Bradley County Commission met on Monday covering several items of business. Bradley County Mayor D. Gary Davis announced a resolution for a $945,000 Community Development Grant for childcare facilities expansion will be voted on next week. Commissioner Raper spoke with the District Attorney’s office over issues at local cemeteries and their upkeep. The DA says those who have plots, or are direct descendants in the cemetery, should call and voice their concerns if they have issues. The DA needs more people to call in order to take any further action than has already been taken.

The Bradley County Audit Committee met on Monday covering several items of business. Bradley County Mayor D. Gary Davis goes over financial findings specific to his departments. One department was not making deposits as quickly as they should have been, but the issue only occurred a few times and had been corrected. A discussion was had about Commissioner Davis and her company in regards to the job her company had been subcontracted to do by another company performing work for the county. It was determined that as she had not taken any job before the voting, she should have simply made a disclosure once she was offered the job. The commission and audit findings did not seem to indicate any further issue surrounding the contract.

The Cleveland City Council met on Monday covering several items of business. City Manager Joe Fivas gave an update on various park projects. At Mosby Park, a splash pad is being worked on. The Civitan club has installed a large pavilion at Stuart Park. The state has offered a $125,000 grant for Jim Sharp Park. At Tinsley Park, the City Manager wants to focus on the parking lot situation – namely widening it to create more parking spaces.
