In news today…

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, the Cleveland Police Department and Bradley County Sheriff’s office responded to multiple auto burglaries. During the sequence of events that unfolded, K9 deputy Joker was shot and required emergency surgery.

After further investigation, detectives were able to positively identify 6 male juveniles from Chattanooga as the suspects in these crimes. The Cleveland Police Department charged them with 15 counts of Auto Burglary, Conspiracy to Commit Auto Burglary, and Felony Evading Arrest. They were also charged with Theft Over $10,000, Conspiracy to Commit Theft Over $10,000, and Attempted Intentional Killing of An Animal by the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office. All 6 juveniles are in custody at this time.

K9 Joker is still being treated at an emergency animal hospital in Chattanooga and his condition at this time is very serious. It was stated in K9 Jokers Medical Summary “He is an extremely strong patient who is being incredibly tolerant with his doctors and nurses”. Third district County Commissioner and Chairman, Johnny Mull, announces he will be a candidate for County Mayor in the May 3rd, 2022 Republican Primary. He stated it has been a great honor to serve the citizens of Bradley County over the past eight years, as well as being Chairman for the last four years. He stated he was proud of the accomplishments of the Commission over the past eight years and looks forward to the challenges and opportunities of the next four years and beyond.

The labor statistics for August are in. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for Tennessee was 5.2%, down from 5.4% in July, and down from 8.4% one year ago.

Moving closer to home, in Bradley County the unemployment rate was 4.1%, down from 4.6% in July, and down from 6.5% one year ago. McMinn County was at 4.3%, down from 4.8% in July, and down from 7% one year ago. Meigs County was at 4.6%, down from 5.1% in July, and down from 8% one year ago. Polk County’s unemployment rate was at 3.9%, down from 4.4% in July, and down from 6.1% one year ago. Rhea County was at 5.3%, down from 5.9% in July, and down from 8.2% one year ago. Hamilton County’s unemployment rate was 4.1%, down from 4.5% in July, and down from 7.3% one year ago.
