Lee University and the Bank of Cleveland will present the annual tradition of “A Classic Christmas” on Sunday, Dec. 5, at 3 p.m. in the Conn Center.
The university is dedicating the 2021 concert to the memory of Sharon Taylor.
This year’s concert will feature appearances by the Lee Orchestra, Lee Handbell Choir, Chorale, Choral Union, Ladies of Lee, and Lee voice professors Drs. Ron and Chery Brendel.
Performances will include a variety of holiday favorites such as “Gloria,” “I Saw Three Ships,” “O Come, O Come Emmanuel,” “Sleigh Ride,” “Feliz Navidad,” and “Silent Night.”
“A Classic Christmas” is free and open to the public, and for the first time, non-ticketed. Seats will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors will open at 1:45 p.m. Overflow seating will be available in the Dixon Center with big-screen video streaming. Bank of Cleveland, the only locally owned and operated bank in Cleveland/Bradley County, joins Lee in sponsoring this year’s Classic Christmas for the third year.

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announced projects receiving funding through the second round of the Governor’s Investment in Vocational Education (GIVE) program which prioritizes learning opportunities in rural counties and enhances career and technical education statewide. Tennessee has made notable progress in rural workforce development in recent years which has resulted in securing over 24,000 new jobs and nearly $13 billion in capital investment in rural counties since 2019.
Since creating GIVE, Gov. Lee’s first legislative priority, he has invested $50 million in the program to support rural workforce development through technical education. The first round of GIVE funding in 2019 served an estimated 8,000 students, and this second round will serve an estimated 7,500 students.
The second round of GIVE grants will fund 13 projects in East Tennessee and 27 projects statewide. The 27 funded projects will serve all economically distressed counties and 25 of the 30 at-risk counties.
Notable projects in East Tennessee that have been awarded GIVE grants in both rounds of funding include the Cleveland State Community College (CLSCC) Mechatronics Technology apprenticeship-like program and the Tennessee College of Applied Technology Morristown’s Five Rivers Partnership for Future Ready Pathways (FRP²) which is implementing a regional approach to workforce development that provides expanded opportunities to all students, regardless of their economic background or physical location.
A Tennessee Valley Authority contract worker at the Watts Bar Nuclear Plant died overnight Wednesday, the agency said.
The employee was found unconscious at the plant. Attempts were made to revive the employee with medical attention provided by onsite and offsite personnel but were not successful.
The TVA said that the death did not appear to be work-related.
A full investigation is underway, the agency said.
Chattanooga police are investigating a deadly crash on I-75 Thursday morning.
It happened on the northbound side around 6:00 a.m.
Police say a 35-year-old man rear-ended a tractor-trailer that was stopped in heavy traffic and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have not released the name of the driver who was killed.
