We were joined in the Mix Studio by Associate Athletic Director Carmen Lastoria to talk about Lee University Homecoming weekend taking place November 3 – 4.

Details:

Thousands of students, alumni, faculty, and staff will gather on campus for a weekend of fun and new memories with old friends.

This year’s Homecoming will feature classic events, such as the Homecoming Parade and the Grand Reunion, and it will also celebrate some milestone anniversaries, such as the Class of 1973’s 50th, Epsilon Lambda Phi’s 35th, and Alpha Gamma Chi’s and Lee Singers’ 60th.

“I am excited to welcome all our alums to Homecoming 2023,” said Dr. Brad Moffett, vice president for University Relations. “The weekend will be full of events celebrating major anniversaries, connecting with friends, cheering on the Flames and Lady Flames, and enjoying Lee’s beautiful campus in the fall. I am especially looking forward to the 60th anniversaries of the Lee Singers and Alpha Gamma Chi. Both have a special place in my heart.”

There are dozens of events planned for the busy weekend, and it all begins with check-in on Friday morning. Alumni will want to be sure to check in and receive their Homecoming 2023 T-shirt. Those arriving on Saturday can feel free to check in that morning as well.

From the 1918 Society Alumni Golf Tournament to a Shenanigans improv show, Friday has plenty of events for alumni to attend. Throughout the afternoon, alumni can reunite with professors and peers at the various department dessert receptions. In the evening, the Pedestrian Mall will host the Grand Reunion, a time for food, live music, and reconnecting. Also on Friday evening, Flames athletics fans can cheer on their alma mater and support an important cause at the annual Volley for a Cure volleyball match.

Friday’s festivities will close with a Lee Theatre production of “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play,” Lee Singers and Alpha Gamma Chi reunion receptions, and the Shenanigans show.

On Saturday, the school, department, and Greek service club breakfasts will take place for a time of reminiscing and reconnecting. From then on, Saturday is packed with events for alumni and their families. There will be a tailgate party, Flame Fair, and the Homecoming Parade before the Flames women’s and men’s basketball teams preview their seasons with exhibition games at 12 and 2, respectively. At halftime of the men’s game, the 2023 Homecoming Court will be presented.

In the evening, Traditions of Lee will honor Lee’s events, clubs, and programs that have stood the test of time. Features will include performances from several of Lee’s music ensembles and the Lee Singers Reunion Choir, along with recognition of the 30th anniversary of the Ellis Hall fire.

To cap off Saturday, there will be another “It’s a Wonderful Life” production and the Class of 1973’s reunion for its 50th anniversary.

Throughout the weekend, attendees can enjoy the well-known tradition of yellow umbrellas hanging over the Pedestrian Mall.

“Homecoming is almost here, and I am so excited to see campus full of alumni!” said Taylor Smith, director of Alumni Relations. “It’s going to be an incredible weekend full of celebrations and reminiscing on all that makes Lee so special.”

In addition to welcoming alumni back to campus, the Cleveland community is invited to celebrate this year’s Homecoming events with the Flames at the athletic events and theatre performances.

Those wanting to take advantage of childcare on Saturday night must register ahead of time via the Homecoming website and pay a $25/child fee.
