Press Release- Two people have been arrested in connection to the theft of a guitar valued at $7,000, the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office reports. The Gibson Jubilee 50th Anniversary guitar was taken from a home on Caldwell Road in October, according to a news release. Freddy Dewayne Ruth, 46, of Caldwell Road, and Adam Russell Creighton, 38, of Springplace Road, have been charged with theft over $1,000. Detectives traced the guitar to a music store in Chattanooga where it had been sold for a fraction of its value. The guitar was recovered and has been returned to the owner, the release said. The Cleveland Daily Banner- The meeting had a reunion-like feel as members of the original Charter Committee for the city of Cleveland reassembled Wednesday. After 23 years, the committee has been asked to review the charter it drafted and recommend changes. “It was a complete change of government when we went to this form of government, and it went to the public for referendum. It was controversial at the time, but it has worked well,” said Cleveland Mayor Tom Rowland. The request to review possible changes to the charter comes from the Cleveland City Council wanting a way for department heads to have more authority when it comes to firing employees. Whether the city should keep an appeals process for firing and what that should look like has also been a major topic of discussion. The charter does not require an appeals process, but one was established through the policies established by the City Council. City Councilman Bill Estes, who is not a member but was present at the committee meeting, said a lot of work is going into fixing the policies. He pointed out how different Cleveland is from when he first came to town 18 years ago. Estes said since the personnel manual was being reviewed, it seemed like a good time to review possible changes to the charter. The committee plans invite all of the Councilmen to attend a committee meeting to get their feedback on what they would specifically like to see changed. Any recommendations need to be finalized by Jan. 1, so they can be reviewed by the Council and passed on to the Tennessee General Assembly for passage as a change to the city’s government private act. Only two of the original members are unable to serve on the committee and will be replaced with appointees by the mayor. Rufus Triplett is one appointee. The other position is yet to be filled. The committee plans to meet each Tuesday for the next few weeks. The next meeting will be Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the city annex building on Second Street. The Cleveland Daily Banner – A family-friendly day to honor veterans and current military personnel is planned for Saturday. The event is being hosted by Chick-fil-A from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., as a Veterans Day observation. The restaurant located at 3890 Keith St N.W. “There are a lot of people who work on Veterans Day, so they don’t have the opportunity to go downtown for the ceremony,” said Janet Allen of the American Legion Auxiliary. She said the outdoor event would serve as an opportunity for families to learn more about the military and veterans. Veterans including Pearl Harbor survivor George Allen and former prisoner of war Bill Norwood will be present to tell about their experiences. Other veterans are welcome to participate by contacting Cleveland Chick-fil-A marketing director Ashley Watkins at cfacleveland@gmail.com or 423-728-5471. The Cleveland Daily Banner reports- Today is a special day in Cleveland as Mayor Tom Rowland has proclaimed it “Paint the Town Pink Day,” with everyone encouraged to wear pink to signify their support of the fight against cancer. At 4:30 p.m. today, festivities begin at Lee University’s Paul Dana Walker Arena with a “Pink Party” at the arena, which will include a bake sale, a silent auction and lots of fun activities for children. This year’s scholarship recipient will be announced between the second and third games of the evening. Those attending the volleyball game are also encouraged to wear pink, and wear the “Real Heroes Wear Pink” T-shirts if possible.
