Four to be inducted to Lee HOF

From the Cleveland Daily Banner: A former legendary coach, a pair of standout players, and a former athletic trainer instrumental in establishing the Sports Medicine Program were nominated and have been selected to enter the 2023 Lee University Hall of Fame.

 

Volleyball coach Andrea Hudson, Women’s Basketball All-American Erin Walsh (Fister), Women’s Soccer All-American Summer Lanter (Hernandez), and former athletic trainer Jeff Mullins will be inducted into the Hall of Fame during Homecoming on Saturday, Nov. 4.

 

The first introduction of the inductees will come at halftime of the men’s basketball game. The four will be officially honored at the Hall of Fame Banquet which will follow at 6 p.m. in the John D. Nichols room of the Lee University Chapel.

 

Andrea Hudson

Coach Hudson led the Lee volleyball program with excellence for 30 seasons from 1991-2021. She posted an outstanding 843-343 record and took her teams to three straight NAIA Final Fours (2009-11). Her clubs posted a remarkable 78 match home-winning streak.

 

In 2015 she won the prestigious NCAA DII Award of Excellence for the work with Volley For A Cure. In 13 years, the Volley For A Cure event raised over $300,000 for Breast Cancer Awareness and Research.

 

Coach Hudson’s teams captured 20 conference championships, six NAIA Regional crowns, and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament 11 times overall including five straight trips from 2008-12. Under her leadership, the team had 29 players named NAIA All-Americans.

 

She continued her success as Lee transitioned to the NCAA DII, leading the 2017 team to the program’s first GSC Tournament victory over West Alabama. In 2018, the Lady Flames posted a 13-3 mark in the GSC as Silvia Sartori was named an All-American and the GSC Player of the Year while Makayla Beebe earned GSC Libero of the Year honors.

 

Erin Walsh (Fister)

Erin Walsh (2014-2018) was a standout guard for the Lady Flames basketball teams. She tallied 1,824 points (7th all-time) and averaged 13.7 points per game and dished off 262 assists during her four-year career.

 

Individually she was a 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-American First Team, 2018 All-South Region, 2016, 2018 All-GSCFirst Team, 2017 All-GSC Second Team, 3-Time GSC All-Academic Team, and 4-Time GSC Honor Roll selection.

 

Walsh and the team posted an overall record of 87-37, claimed the 2015 NCCAA National Championship and advanced to two NCAA National Tournaments.

Summer Lanter (Hernandez)

Summer Lanter (2013-17) led the Lady Flames soccer team to the NCAA National Tournament in 2015, 2016, 2017 and the Sweet 16 in 2017. During those three seasons the teams recorded a 72-20-11 record. She tallied 56 goals during her outstanding four-year career (7th all-time). Lanter led Gulf South Conference (GSC) in goals scored with 20 in 2017.

 

An outstanding player on and off the pitch, Summer was named 3-Time All-GSC First Team, 2-Time GSC Player of the Year, GSC All-Decade Second Team, 2017 All-American Second Team, 2-Time All-South Region, 2017 South Region Player of the Year, 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-American, 3-Time GSC All-Academic Team, 4-Time GSC Honor Roll selection.

 

Jeff Mullins

From 2003-2022 Mullins served as the Head Athletic Trainer and was instrumental in the establishment of the Sports Medicine Program at Lee University. He traveled with the athletic teams all over the country and was considered a vital part of powerful teams that won NAIA and NCAA conference, regional and national championships. He took over the role of Director of Sports Medicine in the spring of 2015.

 

Jeff was also a member of the Lee baseball teams that were reinstated during the 1997-98 seasons. He appeared in 109 games as a junior and senior and carried a solid batting average of .304.
