From NewsChannel 9: A woman in Bradley County will spend more than a dozen years in prison after she pleaded guilty Monday to the second degree murder of her husband.

47-year-old Britany Michelle Taylor and her husband Mike Taylor were having an argument about him going to bed early right before the shooting happened, according to a police report.

The incident happened on May 15th, 2022 at a home on Old Parksville Road.

The police report says

Britany stated that she and Mike began arguing because he needed to hurry and go to bed because he needed to get up early the next day for work.

During the argument, police say Britany retrieved a firearm from her bedroom while her husband was in the bathroom. The report then says

Britany stated she was in the hallway next to the bathroom and she fired one shot into a closet door…. Britany stated that she did this because she wanted attention and Mike was telling her he didn’t care.

Taylor then admitted to going into the bathroom to confront her husband. The report continues

While in the bathroom with Mike, Britany admitted that she meant to pull the trigger of the gun, but thought it would just ‘click.’ The gun fired and struck Mike in the cheek area. Britany then placed the call to 911.

In Bradley County Criminal Court Monday morning, Taylor pleaded guilty to second degree murder.

A judge then sentenced her to 17 years in prison. She’ll be eligible for parole after serving 14.5 of those years.
