The Bradley County Commission met last night for a work session.

During the meeting, 1st District Commissioner Mike Hughes made a motion to move the current property being used by the SPCA on Johnson Road to surplus. Hughes said this would allow the SPCA to bid on the property they already occupy to build the planned new animal shelter. During the Commission’s voting session last week, the Commission voted to not rezone property on Dalton Pike that the SPCA had already agreed to purchase from the county.

Commissioners Alford, Blake, and Rogers all spoke against the motion arguing that the SPCA had already written a letter to the Commission stating they did not want to purchase the current property they occupy because it would not be suited to build the planned shelter. Since no one from the SPCA was in attendance, Rogers urged Hughes to table the motion until after the next work session, which is May 13th so that members of the SPCA could attend and speak to the matter.

Hughes continued with his original plan and placed the motion on the agenda of the next voting session, which is May 6th.
