From Local 3 News: A bill to ban assault weapons in the state of Tennessee was dismissed in the House Civil Justice Subcommittee without any discussion.

Before the meeting a folder with information on assault weapons was distributed to committee members.

Representative Bo Mitchell, sponsor of HB2195, said he was disturbed that the committee couldn’t even exchange ideas.

“I am deeply saddened and angered by the members of this committee’s refusal to at least have an honest discussion of the issue. I am tired of them crying and praying with victims of gun violence and not even have the courtesy to discuss the legislation,” said Rep. Mitchell. “How can we ever work towards responsible gun laws when the Republican Party refuses to have an educated debate on the matter?”
