The Tennessee Highway Patrol says a Cleveland man faces charges after a crash killed his passenger early Monday morning.
It happened on New Hope Road near the Bates Pike intersection just after 4:30 a.m.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol says Christapher Baumgartner was speeding around a curve, lost control, and hit a tree.
Baumgartner was ejected from the SUV.
His passenger, Jacklynn Sneed, died when the SUV’s roof collapsed from the tree. She was 22.
The report says neither person was wearing their seatbelt, but troopers don’t think it would have made a difference.
Drug and alcohol tests have been requested for both Baumgartner and Sneed. Charges are pending against Baumgartner.

Rick Norton reports early enrollment is already pushing up the number of Bradley County property owners taking advantage of the 8-year-old partial payment program that lessens the sting of an annual lump-sum tax payment.
Within the first couple of weeks of registration, another 30 local residents had signed up, which more than offsets the 17 who had left the program since February due to death or from selling their parcels to another owner.
At last report several days ago, the participant number stood at 1,516, which already eclipses the all-time record of 1,500 set earlier this year, according to information provided by the Bradley County Trustee’s Office.
Deadline for the current registration opportunity for 2019 taxes is Friday, Dec. 7. The second sign-up is scheduled for Jan. 3 through Feb. 8, 2019.
The partial payment program allows local taxpayers to avoid the conventional once-a-year, lump-sum payments by utilizing an installment agreement. For those residents signed up for partial payment, most choose the monthly plan; however, other choices are available such as quarterly or twice a year, or whatever payment frequency can be negotiated with the Trustee’s office.
The first payment under the installment plan will be due March 15, 2019.
For taxpayers using the partial payment option, three methods of payment are being accepted: Automatic withdrawal from a valid checking account, mailed payments or payments made in person at the Trustee’s office.

CBL Properties announced plans to redevelop the Sears building at Hamilton Place Mall, including the addition of new-to-market entertainment venue Dave & Buster’s, “which will feature hundreds of the latest arcade games, state-of-the-art sports viewing, chef-crafted food and innovative cocktails not found anywhere else.”
In addition, the project will include a national specialty retail junior anchor, an approximately 145-room boutique-style hotel, Class “A” office space and additional restaurants and specialty tenants. More details will be announced in the coming months.
Construction on this project will begin in early 2019.
