Pearl Harbor remembrance ceremony Thursday at Elks Lodge

From Cleveland Daily Banner: A remembrance ceremony commemorating the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor will be held on Thursday, Dec. 7, at 10 a.m. at the Cleveland Elks Lodge.

 

The attack occurred on Dec. 7, 1941, and led the U.S. to formally enter World War II on the side of the Allies the following day. In all, 2,403 people died in that attack that day.

 

The Col. Benjamin Cleveland Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will be hosting the ceremony. In the past, both of the Ocoee and Chestuee Chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution have been involved in the ceremony, as well as the Bradley County Honor Guard.

 

The speaker will be Major James Toliver, of the U.S. Army Reserves. The SAR Color Guard will present the colors and lead the Pledge of Allegiance. The Bradley County Honor Guard will present a 21 gun salute and play “Taps.” Greg Banther, state chaplain for the Tennessee SAR, will give the invocation. Ron Harris, chaplain for the Col. Benjamin Cleveland Chapter, will say the benediction.

 

The organizing committee chairman is Terry Beaty.

 

The public is invited to attend the ceremony.
