Autumn Hughes reports: Hundreds of absentee ballot requests have been received by the Bradley County Election Commission ahead of the Nov. 3 election.

Fran Green, Bradley County’s administrator of elections, told the election commission Thursday her office had received 872 by-mail ballot requests, with 131 military and overseas ballots that had to be mailed out Saturday, and hundreds to process.

In addition, she was processing around 350 new voter registrations.

Green said after all those are done, she will begin working on the list of election workers for early voting. She anticipates crews of three Democrats and three Republicans each, at both the Election Commission Office and the McGrady Drive location; and four Democrats and four Republicans at the Bradley Square Mall location.

Also, Green said she is planning to place six election machines at both the McGrady Drive and office locations, and eight at the mall location.

The $600,000 grant for the North property development project includes $300,000 in federal funding, as well as $300,000  from the Tennessee Department of Transportation.

The city of Cleveland Municipal Airport Authority will also be providing $30,000 in matching funds.

Jetport Manager Mark Fidler told the Cleveland Daily Banner that he had recently attended a bid review meeting with contractors.

He said the project is expected to begin in spring.

It has not yet been determined if the funds will be used to construct one large hangar or several smaller ones.
