The manhunt for homicide suspect James Michael Farris is over after a nearly two-day search and a shooting that resulted in Farris’ death.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office reported James Farris was taken into custody right after 3:00pm Friday afternoon after a multi-day search.

James Farris was wanted for his alleged involvement in a murder Wednesday night.

He was armed when an officer engaged and fired a shot at him during the capture. Law enforcement was not injured.

Farris was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

The TBI says District Attorney General Neal Pinkston has requested that agents investigate the incident that resulted in Farris being shot.

Tim Siniard reports: Cleveland State Community College received a hefty rebate check from the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Energy Right Program during a presentation Thursday attended by Cleveland Utilities and TVA officials on the college’s campus.

The $71,085 from TVA’s energy incentive program will help pay for energy-efficient upgrades at CSCC’s new $20.3 million Health and Science Center, which opened for classes earlier this year.

It is now one of the area’s most energy-efficient buildings, according to Cleveland Utilities. It’s also the first new academic building constructed on campus in nearly 50 years.

By using TVA’s EnergyRight for Business New Construction program, CU was able to “help guide the design and installation of energy-saving features in the building, including an energy-efficient heating and cooling system, as well as LED lighting. As a result, the facility should operate with 14.5 percent better energy efficiency than without CU’s assistance.

Alisha Fox, CSCC’s vice president of finance and COO, said the building’s architects incorporated energy-efficient equipment into its design.

Fox said the rebate will enable CSCC to invest the money in other campus improvements to make it the “best it can be for our community.”

A man killed three family members in a shooting rampage inside a Maury County home Friday morning, authorities said.

The Maury County Sheriff’s Department said Nathanial Pipkin shot and killed his 11-year-old sister, his mom and another man. MCSD couldn’t confirm the adult male victim’s relationship to the shooter but did say everyone involved was family.

Shots rang out just before 6 a.m. One family member managed to escape through a window, run to a neighbor’s house and call 911.

Officers arrived within minutes to find multiple dead victims, including a young Maury County Public Schools student. The killer had already fled by the time officers arrived.

Pipkin reportedly fled in a silver Mustang that was spotted by Monteagle Police later that morning. Along with the help of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, they were able to bring the suspect into custody just before 9 a.m. more than 100 miles away from the crime.

Pipkin is behind bars in Maury County and will be charged with three counts of homicide.
