Christa (Hutchison) Fabre is coming home. The former Lee volleyball standout has been named the fourth head coach in the storied history of the Lee volleyball program this week. Lee President Dr. Mark Walker announced the selection of Fabre as the new leader of the Lady Flames after a month-long search.

Fabre most recently served as the assistant coach for Gulf South Conference rival Union University from 2017-2022. She worked alongside a former head coach, Darrin McClure to transform the Bulldog program into a perennial GSC contender.

“We are excited to welcome Christa Fabre as our new head coach for the Lady Flames Volleyball team,” said Lee University President, Dr. Mark Walker. “Coach Fabre is a Lee alumnus from the class of 2012 who understands and is passionate about the Lee athletic mission of developing the academic abilities, athletic skills, and Christian character of our student-athletes. We believe she will carry on these Lee values with great distinction, which will only enhance the winning culture of our athletic program.”

As a player for former Lee volleyball legendary coach Andrea Hudson, Fabre was a vital member of three Final Four teams and was named an All-American her senior season in 2011. Fabre was a three-time all-conference selection and scholar-athlete. The teams she played on complied an incredible 140-20 record over her four years (2008-2011).

“It is an exciting time for Lee University Volleyball with the addition of Christa Fabre as our head coach. She is no stranger to Lee Volleyball having played here for four years and a starter on three Final Four teams,” said Lee Athletic Director, Larry Carpenter. “She helped turn a fellow GSC volleyball program around and we are confident she will do the same for us. She brings a wealth of knowledge, a love of Christ and a work ethic that will elevate our program to one of the best in the conference.”

Fabre is a 2012 honors graduate of Lee where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. After graduation, Fabre joined Adventures in Missions and was a team leader from 2013-2016 where she visited 15 different countries and assembled teams for specific missions work in each country.

Fabre got into coaching starting in June of 2016 as she was named the head coach of the University School of Jackson volleyball team. She served as head coach for one year before joining the Union University staff.

“What an honor and a gift it is to be back at Lee as the head volleyball coach. The years I spent playing here had a great impact on my life and I hope to be able to give the teams I coach a similar experience,” noted Fabre. “I’m ready to implement what I have learned over the years from great coaching minds and excited to bring in players and families to compete at such a great university.”

Fabre is married to former Lee University baseball player and coach Joe Fabre. The couple resides in Chattanooga with their two boys, Jett and Boaz.

“We are excited to introduce Christa Fabre as our new head women’s volleyball coach.  During my conversations with her, I was impressed by her leadership skills, coaching philosophy, and level of commitment to the student-athletes. I have no doubt Christa will be an excellent fit within our athletic department and our volleyball program will thrive under her direction,” said Lee Associate Athletic Director and search committee chair. “We are excited to see how she will help Lee Athletics in our mission to develop and graduate champions in the classroom, in their sport, in their faith, and in the community.”

Fabre becomes the fourth Lee alumnus to join the Athletic Department as a head coach. She joins Chris Hennessey (women’s soccer), Emily Russell (softball), and Caleb Morgan (cross country and track and field.

Jessica McIntyre, Associate Athletic Director of Internal Affairs chaired the committee. The committee included Athletic Director Larry Carpenter, Assistant Athletic Director Carman Lastoria, Lee Softball Coach Emily Russell, Associate Professor of Education and Faculty Athletics Representative Dr. Jason Robinson, and Professor of Educational Leadership Dr. Dan Lawson.
