The Bradley County Commission met last night for a work session.

Mayor Gary Davis presented the commission with a letter, which will be sent from the Mayor’s office to Tennessee’s senators and congressmen, regarding the American Connectivity Program.

The American Connectivity Program assists those who can’t afford internet service by providing subsidy funding for eligible households based on their income to offer discounted or free broadband internet service.

In Bradley County alone, over 10,000 households are participating in the program and over $5.4 million in funding has been used over the last two years. Funding flows from the Federal Government directly to the internet provider, which creates ‘a discount’ on their monthly invoices.

The program is set to expire in April. The Mayor’s letter will urge Tennessee’s Congressional Delegation to continue the program.

7th District Commissioner, Josh Rogers, announced that Cleveland State Community College and City Fields will be launching plumbing boot camps for those overcoming substance abuse and incarceration. Rogers said he feels this is an important workforce development program, as the community needs more plumbers.

For more information about this program, citizens can reach out to City Fields at (423)472-9876.

The commission also honored and recognized Bradley Central High School’s FFA Program in honor of last week being ‘National FFA Week.’

Last fall, Bradley Central High School attended the National FFA Convention. During the convention, the local chapter was awarded its 56th consecutive gold-level award.

The next meeting of the Bradley County Commission will be a voting session, and will take place on Monday, March 4, at 7 p.m. at the Bradley County Courthouse.
