A family in Apison escaped their burning home without injury, and distance to the nearest hydrant posed a challenge for firefighters Thursday morning.

The Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department says firefighters were called to the scene a little after midnight at a home on Thaxton Lane.

The fire proved challenging. A Facebook post says

As crews made entry to begin an offensive attack, a significant amount of supply line was laid from the nearest hydrant, which was approximately 2,000 feet away. Tanker 1 & Engine 5 was utilized to boost water pressure to the scene due to the distance from the hydrant.

After 90 minutes, firefighters got the fire under control. Crews remained on the scene to put out hot spots.

Right now, there’s no word on what caused the fire.
