From the Cleveland Daily Banner: Bradley County’s chief building official, Ronald A. Wilson, who is serving as interim director of planning and inspections, made his debut at the Bradley County Regional Planning Commission’s May meeting.

Pushed back twice, due to a lack of quorum, the meeting was held on Thursday, May 25, with the commission voting unanimously, 6-0, to approve two plats in addition to recommending the rezoning of a property on Lead Mine Valley Road Southwest from I-1 General Industrial District to R-1 Rural Residential.

In his cover letter for the May planning commission meeting, Wilson wrote, “If you weren’t aware of it, Mr. Bently Thomas has left Bradley County’s employment. I am filling in at this time until another planner is appointed to fill the position.”

Thomas’ final day as director of planning and inspections for the county was April 21, having taken on a new role at the Tennessee Department of Transportation as transportation planning supervisor for Region 2.

At the meeting, Planning Commission Chairman Lake Mantooth inquired, “Are we getting any closer to talking about a new planner?”

Chuckling, Wilson replied, “As of now, it’s me, until such a time as they see fit.”

The mayor’s executive assistant, Adam Lewis, noted there are still some interviews for the position in the pipeline, adding, “It’s budget season, so we’re going to have (Mayor D. Gary Davis) wrap that up first.”

Wilson said, “It shouldn’t be a real problem — the budget should be fine.”

With a grin, Lewis said, “It’s always a piece of cake.”

The Planning Commission’s next meeting is tentatively set for noon on Thursday, June 22, and the new fiscal year begins July 1.
