The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating a crash involving a Meigs County school bus on Tuesday evening that killed two people, including one student.

The crash happened in the 7700 block of Highway 58 in Decatur.

A THP spokesperson says a truck belonging to Service Electric Co. was traveling north on Highway 58 when the driver lost control and hit school bus 12-1.

The THP says 22 children were on the bus at the time of the crash.

The THP says the female bus driver and a 7-year-old girl on the bus were killed as a result.

The THP says five children from the bus were flown to a hospital and two more children were taken from the scene by ambulance.

The THP says several other people involved in the crash were injured and at least one person is in critical condition.

The THP says the bus driver was traveling in her lane and had no time to avoid the crash.

The names of the people involved have not been released at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.

Another 2,458 people voted early on Tuesday to bring the running total in Bradley County to 31,975. Two days are left in early voting and we have already set a turn out record for Bradley County. You can vote early today from 9 AM until 6 PM at the three Bradley County early voting locations: the Bradley County Election Commission, the former BB&T Bank building on McGrady Drive, and Bradley Square Mall.

And finally…

Beginning today, Cleveland City Schools will once again enter the YELLOW phase regarding their COVID-19 protocols.  This is necessary since Bradley County’s active case count is on the rise and now fits this criteria as laid out in the system’s plan. All schools will require a temperature check for students and staff as they enter the building.  Students will have a second temperature check around mid-day. After-school clubs will not meet while in the yellow phase, but tutoring and other academic-based activities may continue as long as COVID-19 protocols are followed. Please note masks continue to be required for all bus riders and students in grades 3-12 in classrooms. You can find the system’s reopening guide at: clv.city/reopening
