In news today…

Bradley County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the scene of a shooting on Carson Road SE in southeastern Bradley County Tuesday evening. The victim was transported by Life Force. The condition of the victim was unknown as of news time. Authorities report the suspect has been detained and is in custody at this time. Tennessee Department of Education announced Leneda Laing of Cleveland Middle School is the 2020-21 Tennessee Principal of the Year.  

Out of nine finalists representing Tennessee’s eight CORE regions, as well as the Shelby County-Municipals area, Laing was selected as the 2020-21 Tennessee Principal of the Year. Laing served as a classroom teacher, math coordinator and assistant principal before becoming principal of Cleveland Middle School. She was also awarded the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching Mathematics. 

Due to the coronavirus and taking necessary safety precautions, the announcement took place virtually, including congratulatory messages from Governor Bill Lee, Commissioner Schwinn, and legislators representing areas for various finalists.

Governor Bill Lee, Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bob Rolfe and General Motors officials announced Tuesday that the automaker will invest nearly $2 billion in its Spring Hill manufacturing plant to build fully electric vehicles, including the all-new, luxury Cadillac LYRIQ.

This announcement adds to the more than $2.3 billion GM has invested in the Spring Hill manufacturing plant since 2010. 

The Spring Hill plant will be GM’s third electric vehicle manufacturing site, and the first outside of the state of Michigan.

Through this investment, GM’s Spring Hill paint and body shops will undergo major expansions, and general assembly will receive comprehensive upgrades, which include new machines, conveyors, controls and tooling.

2,838 people voted early in Bradley County on Tuesday. The march to a record turnout continues today. Early voting continues 9am-6pm at the 3 locations: The Bradley County Election Commission, Bradley Square Mall, and the farmer BB&T Bank building on McGrady Drive.
