Lee University will be host to an open house at the new School of Business building on Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. for friends and neighbors in the community.

The two-story building occupies the education wing of the former First Baptist Church on Church Street. In addition, a connecting area was added to the north side of the building to connect Pangle Hall and the School of Business. According to Strong, this allows the building to have a grand entrance overlooking the South Campus Quad.

The School of Business has a total seating capacity of 408 and includes state-of-the-art computer and technology labs. There are collaborative classrooms and enhanced classrooms in addition to conference rooms and a tiered lecture style classroom.

The building also has office space for up to 18 faculty and features a student commons area on the second floor.

The building opened for classes after Lee’s fall break earlier this month. At the Open House, guests will have the opportunity to explore the building and enjoy the various common spaces.

This event is free and open to the public.

The energy conservation project for Bradley County Schools has been completed, and it appears to be paying off in a major way.

The project was discussed during the Bradley County Commission’s Education Committee meeting Monday afternoon.

School Energy Coordinator and Commissioner Johnny Mull reported the $16.2 million project is now finished, and included new and upgraded HVAC systems and window replacements.

Mull said the best comparison this early in is to look at the August utility bills for this year and last at Bradley Central High School.

He said in August 2016, Bradley Central’s utility costs were $36,000. This August, that cost was $18,000. That is just one example.

Mull said he feels the numbers are on track to hold that type of savings systemwide, which will help pay the lease-purchase package.
