The Cleveland City School District is looking into a social media “free speech” account which bears the name and likeness of a Cleveland Middle School teacher, and has shared racially derogatory posts.

The app is called Parler, promoted by the company as an unbiased network promoting “free expression without violence and no censorship.”

Parler has soared in popularity (reaching No. 1 in App Store downloads), especially among conservatives, following former Vice President Joe Biden being declared the projected winner of the 2020 Presidential Race, which incumbent President Donald Trump disputes.

On Tuesday afternoon, Director of Schools Russell Dyer told NewsChannel 9 that they conducted a preliminary investigation Tuesday morning regarding this account, which was created on Monday. The account shows racially derogatory posts targeting the Black Lives Matter movement — along with insensitive comments toward other ethnicities and political views.

The school district clarified details in a statement: “She states this is not an account she owns and believes someone has created a fake account. We have reviewed the teacher’s school-issued laptop and found no entries or web history for this account. While we certainly do not condone any of the information on that account, we are unable to trace this account back to this particular teacher or to our school system.”
