Christy Armstrong reports: Though the school is set to open this fall, there is still work to be done so the new Candy’s Creek Cherokee Elementary School can be called complete. Hal Taylor, director of operations for Cleveland City Schools, told the Cleveland Board of Education on Monday there continue to be problems with subcontractors working on the building. J&J Contractors, which is handling the construction, has reportedly brought in more subcontractors. The problems will not impact opening in the fall.

A body has been found in an East Brainerd home that was destroyed by fire on Tuesday afternoon. The fire happened in the 700 block of Stone Crest Circle in the Hurricane Creek subdivision shortly before 2:40 p.m. Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Matt Lea says a burned body was found as Tri-Community Volunteer firefighters were investigating the fire. Lea says the body has been taken to the Medical Examiner’s office for identification. The victim’s name will not be released until family members are notified. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
