From the Cleveland Daily Banner…

Cleveland City Manager Joe Fivas, who is still in his first year on the job, said he and city stakeholders discussed a lot of ideas when he first began.

While speaking to MainStreet Cleveland on Monday, he stressed the city is soon going to be trying to turn some of those ideas into realities.

He noted members of MainStreet Cleveland, a nonprofit which focuses on preserving and furthering downtown Cleveland, would be interested in knowing that downtown is likely to play a significant role in the city’s future progress.

The city manager described how he has taken part in numerous conversations and meetings to try to identify what the city’s needs are. The city also recently wrapped up a campaign to get city residents to fill out online surveys about their experiences.

Concerns like needing to address traffic problems and support schools were shared. However, Fivas said many have also expressed their desire to see downtown Cleveland become a more vibrant, welcoming place for residents and visitors alike.

Fivas noted traffic is increasingly becoming a concern for Cleveland residents, as more and more businesses and people settle in and around the city.

The fourth priority is to help improve neighborhoods in the South Cleveland area, particularly the neighborhoods which surround the downtown area.

City officials have been talking their way through several goals to help address matters of traffic, downtown revitalization and neighborhood redevelopment.
