A significant outbreak of severe weather is expected today as a strong cold front sweeps into the region from the west. In particular, there is an enhanced risk for thunderstorms capable of producing damaging straight-line winds during the afternoon and early evening across the entire area. Additionally, these storms will be capable of producing large hail and potentially a few tornadoes. The main timeframe for severe weather will occur from roughly noon to 8PM this evening.

As of news time, National Weather Service products indicate the most likely time frame for severe weather impacting our area is between 2PM and 6PM. However, the exact timing of events may change at any time, and you should be prepared for severe weather at any time today.

From WRCB…

Hamilton County schools transportation director Ben Coulter is stepping aside.

Coulter has been dividing his time between the school system’s Information Technology Department and his transportation duties.

As soon as the school system hires a full-time transportation director, Coulter will return to his previous position in the I.T. Department.

Coulter said the school system needs someone who can focus on transportation full time.

He says he will stay on the job until the current transportation contract talks are completed.

From the Cleveland Daily Banner…

Singer-songwriter Carole King may have said it best when it comes to what is in store for southern Bradley County.

And, the earth is expected to really begin moving this summer, as work begins on building the infrastructure for the new Spring Branch Industrial Park.

The park, which has a total area 331.6 acres, will be subdivided into nine lots that can then be sold to what local leaders hopes are new manufacturing plants that could bring new industries to the area.

It is expected that the industrial project will bring 2,316 jobs to the Cleveland-Bradley County community, with more than 3,100 indirect employees. The annual payroll will be more than $84 million.

Along with potential industries locating in the park, the area off Exit 20 will be well-suited for commercial property, including hotels, retail marts, and other businesses.

Projected commercial development includes 70 acres for retail, areas for six restaurants and four hotels, 200,000 square feet for office space and 20 acres for apartments and/or condos.
