No tax increase. Again. That is the result as the Bradley County Commission gave its final “thumbs up” Monday night to the 2017-18 budget after a sometimes complicated and tedious budget process. The unanimous vote makes official the county budget which totals more than $37 million for the General Fund and more than $73 million for the School Fund. The budget also provides for a $10.7 million fund balance. Those will all be paid for by a tax rate which will not be increased for the 17th year. The new certified tax rate is lower, due to an approximate 9 percent increase in assessed property value.

Also from The Banner…

Marshall Stinnett’s financial report at last week’s board meeting of Cleveland’s Public Utilities included a chart of residential retail electric rates, and the changes over recent months and years.

Stinnett, the utility’s financial manager, said the agency’s 31,619 customers for electrical service will see a rate increase of 2.01 percent in July, as compared to June. The increase will bring electricity rates to 10.089 cents per kilowatt hour.

For the month of June the rate was 9.890 cents per kWh. This rate change is once again driven by fuel cost adjustments by the Tennessee Valley Authority.
