From the Cleveland Daily Banner…

Cleveland Police Department personnel will be “going for the gold” next week as they begin hosting a team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, or CALEA, on Tuesday, March 5. The visitors will examine all aspects of the CPD’s policy and procedures management, operations and support services.

Chief Mark Gibson said the CPD is aiming to achieve the “gold standard” during the department’s third CALEA evaluation.

Gibson said CALEA is a nationally and internationally recognized organization “whose sole purpose is to evaluate police departments on their standards.”

The public can be involved with a public information session on Tuesday, March 6 at 3 p.m., when members of the community can offer comments in person about the department in a public setting. That begins at 3 p.m. in the community room at CPD headquarters on Church Street.

For those who cannot attend, the public may offer comments by calling 423-559-3389 between 1 and 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7.

A steering committee representing MyRide TN had a meeting last Thursday to discuss its Bradley County project being one of the first funded projects to move forward and bring senior-friendly transportation to the area.

MyRide TN is a senior-friendly service in which volunteers drive their personal vehicles to transport seniors to various destinations.

Volunteers are asked to commit three hours per month driving seniors on essential trips around Bradley County. More time spent volunteering is encouraged, but not required, and gas reimbursement is provided if requested. An employee of the Southeast Tennessee Area Agency on Aging and Disability coordinates the program.

If anyone is interested in becoming a volunteer, training is required that includes a brief interview, background and driving record check, and two to three hours of volunteer training from MyRide TN staff.

Anyone may contact MyRide TN at 423-424-4288.
