Channel 3- BRADLEY COUNTY, TN (WRCB) –Heavy fog forced troopers to shut down several miles of I-75 in northern Bradley County for a little under an hour on Tuesday morning. This happened just days after the 25th anniversary of the fog-related crash that killed 12 people in a 99-car pileup back in 1990. Officers with Tennessee Highway Patrol reported that visibility went down to 250 feet on Tuesday around 9 a.m. Troopers began diverting traffic at mile marker 27 in Cleveland to avoid the fog zone. Traffic rerouted to Highway 11 until the interstate re-opened about an hour later. In addition to TDOT cameras and fog monitoring centers, a trooper is assigned to the “fog zone” area every day to help monitor conditions. The trooper on duty Tuesday helped make the call to reroute traffic. Press Release- State Representative Kevin Brooks spoke Tuesday at the ribbon cutting ceremony to officially mark the completion of the expanded Exit 20 interchange at I-75. Brooks is called “Mr. Exit 20” for his advocacy to renovate one of southeast Tennessee’s busiest I-75 interchanges. His efforts were applauded by state Department of Transportation, Bradley County and Cleveland officials who gathered for the ceremony. Cleveland Mayor Tom Rowland read a resolution approved by the Cleveland City Council asking the state legislature to name all or part of the interchange to honor Brooks. TDOT Commissioner John Schroer, U.S. Congressman Chuck Fleischmann, state Senators Mike Bell and Todd Gardenhire, state Representative Dan Howell and Bradley County Mayor D. Gary Davis spoke before the ribbon cutting. Work began on the 1.4 mile project in August, 2013. A narrow two lane bridge over I-75 was replaced with a six lane bridge. All entrance and exit ramps were expanded and traffic signals were installed. A short distance from the interchange, work continues on APD 40 for the Mayor Tom Rowland Interchange scheduled to be completed in late 2016.
